Katie Burch, AIA
A native Brenhamite, Katie founded PlanNorth as a place where designers could remember why they wanted to be an architect to begin with: a fun studio environment, the chance to do work that matters, and a work environment where real life comes first. Katie is head over heels for buildings: renovations, masterplans, new construction, you name it…but projects for kids will always be #1. She loves seeing new places, near or far, and studying the small details that make them special, meaningful and innovative. A lifetime learner herself, Katie spoke on the TED stage on the topic of Treating Top Performers like Leaders. Katie spends her “down” time at Hohlt Park, watching her two boys and their cousins play soccer and baseball.
Ken Burch, AIA
A Texas A&M graduate and native Houstonian, Ken spent a decade in construction before joining the PlanNorth studio to lead the firm from a tiny studio to a thriving business. A detail junkie, Ken loves nothing more than to solve design problems by using boots-on-the-ground know-how. Ken remains focused throughout a project on the building systems and life-cycle energy costs, as well as having a strong interest in building envelopes and performance. Always up for a site visit or an impromptu problem solving session, Ken also serves as the liaison between the PlanNorth architects and the contractors building the projects, as well as managing all of PlanNorth’s Quality Control and Quality Assurance efforts. Ken is a graduate of the Bryan-College Station Community Leadership Program, a Board Member of Brenham’s Unity Theater, and a Washington County Little League and Youth Soccer coach.
An Aggie, Angelia is an up-and-coming designer with strong conceptual skills and an eye for beautiful proportions and building finishes. Credited with some of PlanNorth’s latest design work, Angelia has an ability to merge landscape with the built environment to create places where people want to stay. Parents to two very spoiled dogs, Angelia and her husband live in Somerville and are loving their new community by the lake. Angelia is a graduate of the Washington County Leadership Program and a Washington County YPO Board Member.
A South Carolina native, Gerry and his wife packed up and moved to Texas to join the PlanNorth team in 2019. Gerry’s design methodology is reminiscent of the “master builder” of earlier times. It’s common in the studio to see Gerry working in a 3D model trying out the latest techy hacks, drilling down in a code book, and then shifting over to sketch with a pen on trace paper. Gerry is currently working on both a large-scale renovation and serving as a key team member on a multi-building renovation effort for a campgrounds project. He and his wife are live music aficionados and are exploring the local cuisine one weekend at a time.
Pam Mahon, MBA
Pam is the level-headed numbers whiz who increases the efficiency and organization of everyone at PlanNorth. Pam works hard to prepare every client, vendor and consultant agreement, manage all things insurance, and keep the ship sailing while the designers design. Pam’s quick wit and practical nature offer a unique perspective to the creative personalities at PlanNorth.
With more than ten years’ experience at the Texas Association of School Boards and Texas PTA, Kate brings extensive experience to PlanNorth in the area of education and bond planning. Kate has a heart for youth and non-profits, and she has the know-how to see even the most tedious of projects through to completion successfully. Kate’s leadership experience helps PlanNorth to identify ways that facilities can support really positive educational and community outcomes. Kate currently serves as board chair for Urban Roots, a farm-based youth leadership program, and dedicates much of her spare time as a volunteer for her local Partners in Education Foundation. An Austin native, Kate and her husband Pat are loving the chance to spend time and make memories with their newest granddaughter.
Mandi is a free-spirited traveler and a skilled, inspired Architect. A graduate of both Baylor University and Texas A&M, Mandi first studied Interior Design, and later received a Master’s Degree in Architecture. Mandi has also worked in a large-firm setting, designing for Aviation, Religious, and K-12 Studios. Originally from Kirbyville, Texas, Mandi is both a creator and a decision maker, and she is a natural mentor and leader for the PlanNorth team. She and her husband love exploring new cities with their three children, and have travelled all over the United States in their RV. Mandi and her family recently moved to the Brenham area, and have DIY-renovated an old country home from almost-demo to charming country cottage.
Sam White, AIA
A University of Texas graduate, Sam White joined PlanNorth in 2012 and offers the unique perspective of an Architect who has designed buildings by hand, using AutoCAD, and now using BIMS, or Revit Technology. His thoughtful designs show a commitment to the elements of a timeless building: orientation, light and materials. Sam has travelled the United States and Europe, and has gathered inspiration from countless sources. While he loves Brenham and the PlanNorth family, Sam can also be found on frequent trips to Colorado, the pretty-frequent live music cruise, or spending time with his two daughters and two granddaughters near Kingwood, Texas.
